How We're Building The SpeedWagon
Sep 15, 2025

Planned obsolescence has become the norm in many industries, and the car industry is no outlier. The drivetrains may last longer, but the rest of the car doesn’t and poorly aging electronics kneecap most modern cars. Along with that, repairs are made increasingly difficult, costly, and complex. We don’t like it and we won’t stand for it.
We’re not just building the SpeedWagon for today or tomorrow – we’re building it to last generations. We know that sounds grandiose but here's how we're approaching building the SpeedWagon differently than most manufacturers:
Our Vehicle Principles
Road Feel: We're building the SpeedWagon to be as mechanical and analog as possible. The right amount of noise and feedback is what enthusiasts want. Not a sensory deprivation chamber, and not a tin can. Not only is that what our drivers want, but that focus simplifies our components and improves the longevity of the SpeedWagon.
Long Lasting: Our cars are designed from the ground up to last decades with minimal maintenance. We're using proven, robust components and over-engineering critical systems to ensure longevity that isn’t always present in today’s cars.
Easy To Work On: Water pumps fail. Timing belts need replacing. These are facts of life with any vehicle. The SMC difference? We're designing the SpeedWagon with accessibility in mind. Maintenance points are easy to reach, we'll provide comprehensive documentation for owners who want to work on their own vehicles, and we make it as easy as we can for you to source the parts you need on your own.
Community Focused: We're building more than just cars – we're creating a community of like-minded enthusiasts. From ownership events to maintenance workshops, the SpeedWagon experience extends far beyond the vehicle itself.
Accessible: While our Champion Edition will be limited in production, our goal is to bring the Enthusiast Edition to more drivers at a price point that's attainable for serious enthusiasts and aspirational for the young enthusiasts. We believe that driving excitement shouldn't be reserved only for the ultra-wealthy.
Unlike mass manufacturers who design vehicles to be replaced every few years, we're creating the SpeedWagon to appreciate – both in value and in the joy it brings you. Because great cars should get better with age, not become obsolete.
In our next email, we'll share ways that you can get more involved with the Strickland community.
Until then, enjoy the drive.
